Dollar Trades at Tk122.94 Amid Global Currency Shifts

Foreign exchange rates remain a key indicator for Bangladesh’s economy, influencing everything from remittance inflows and international trade to overseas education costs, medical expenses, travel payments and cross-border financial transactions. With more than 10 million Bangladeshis living and working abroad, the value of foreign currencies has a direct impact on household incomes, business costs and the country’s overall external financial position.

On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, the exchange rates of major global currencies against the Bangladeshi taka were published in line with prevailing conditions in the international currency market. The US dollar, the most widely used currency in Bangladesh’s foreign trade and financial activities, was valued at Tk122.94. Movements in the dollar rate directly affect import payments, foreign debt servicing obligations and the local currency value of remittances sent by expatriate Bangladeshis.

The euro, another major international currency, was trading at Tk143.46. The currency remains important due to Bangladesh’s trade links with European markets, as well as financial transactions involving European countries. The British pound continued to maintain a higher valuation among major currencies, standing at Tk165.40.

Among Middle Eastern currencies, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest value. One Kuwaiti dinar was equivalent to Tk401.51. The Bahraini dinar stood at Tk327.85, while the Omani rial was valued at Tk319.05. These currencies attract significant attention in Bangladesh because of the strong presence of Bangladeshi workers in Gulf countries and the region’s contribution to the country’s remittance earnings.

The currencies of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also remained closely monitored due to their role in Bangladesh’s expatriate income flows. On the day, the Saudi riyal was valued at Tk32.89, the UAE dirham at Tk33.62 and the Qatari riyal at Tk33.93. The Malaysian ringgit was trading at Tk30.25, reflecting continued economic connections between the two countries.

Major currencies from Asia-Pacific and other regions also showed varied exchange values. The Singapore dollar stood at Tk95.46, the Australian dollar at Tk85.73, the Canadian dollar at Tk87.02 and the New Zealand dollar at Tk71.12. Although the Japanese yen and South Korean won have comparatively lower values against the taka, they remain significant because of Japan and South Korea’s economic importance in global trade, investment and technology sectors.

Economists say foreign exchange rates are not fixed and can change regularly depending on a range of domestic and international factors. Global market movements, currency demand and supply, remittance flows, import and export trends, inflation pressures and the economic performance of individual countries all influence daily exchange rate movements.

For businesses involved in international trade, accurate currency values are essential for planning import costs, export earnings and investment decisions. Similarly, expatriate families and individuals sending or receiving money internationally need updated exchange rate information to understand the actual value of their transactions.

Banks, money exchange institutions and individuals involved in overseas payments generally rely on the latest market rates before completing transactions. As global economic conditions continue to shift, monitoring foreign currency movements remains an important part of managing financial decisions in
