Taka Exchange Rates Show Wide Variation Across Major Currencies

Foreign exchange rates play a central role in a wide range of international financial transactions involving Bangladesh, from remittances and import payments to export settlements, overseas education, medical treatment and international travel. Knowing the value of major foreign currencies against the Bangladeshi taka helps individuals and businesses estimate the potential cost or proceeds of cross-border transactions.

According to the quoted exchange rates for Saturday, 15 August 2026, the US dollar was valued at Tk 122.35 against the Bangladeshi taka. The British pound stood at Tk 166.24, while the euro was quoted at Tk 144.25. These three currencies are particularly significant for Bangladesh because of their extensive use in international trade, remittance flows, education payments and other cross-border transactions.

Among the Middle Eastern currencies listed, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest value, at Tk 400.26 per dinar. The Bahraini dinar was valued at Tk 325.97, while the Omani rial stood at Tk 318. Foreign exchange rates are not fixed figures. They can move in response to changes in currency demand and supply, interest rates, international trade, economic conditions, monetary policy and developments in global financial markets. As a result, quoted rates can change over time, and buying and selling rates may differ even within the same trading day.

For Bangladesh, movements in major currencies can have broader economic implications. A stronger foreign currency against the taka can raise the local-currency cost of imports, including goods and services priced internationally. At the same time, changes in exchange rates can affect the taka value of remittances sent by Bangladeshis working abroad. Exporters, importers and businesses with foreign-currency obligations therefore closely monitor exchange-rate movements when planning payments and settlements.

For individuals, the published rate should not automatically be treated as the final rate applicable to a transaction. Banks and authorised foreign-exchange providers may apply different buying and selling rates depending on the currency, transaction type and prevailing market conditions. Charges and service costs can also affect the final amount received or paid.

Anyone planning a substantial international payment, remittance, overseas tuition payment or foreign-currency purchase should therefore verify the latest applicable rate with the relevant bank or authorised institution immediately before completing the transaction. The quoted figures provide a useful reference for understanding the relative value of major currencies against the taka on 15 August, but the actual transaction rate may vary.
