Dollar Stands at Tk123.34 as Currency Rates Shift

More than 10 million Bangladeshi expatriates living across different parts of the world continue to play a crucial role in supporting the country’s economy through remittance inflows. The foreign currency sent by overseas workers has become one of the key pillars of Bangladesh’s external financial stability, contributing significantly to foreign exchange reserves, household income, and overall economic activity.

Currency exchange rates have a direct impact on several areas, including import costs, export competitiveness, international trade, education expenses, medical treatment abroad, and overseas travel. As a result, daily foreign exchange rates remain closely monitored by expatriates, businesses, investors, and ordinary citizens who depend on international financial transactions.

On Saturday, 1 August 2026, the exchange value of the United States dollar against the Bangladeshi taka was recorded at Tk123.34. As the world’s most widely used reserve and trading currency, movements in the dollar rate have a substantial influence on Bangladesh’s import payments, especially for essential commodities, fuel, industrial raw materials, and machinery.

The euro was valued at Tk145.05, while the British pound stood at Tk167.06. These currencies hold particular significance for Bangladesh because a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis live and work in European countries and the United Kingdom. Changes in their exchange rates can influence the amount of money received by families dependent on overseas earnings.

Currencies from the Gulf region also remained important due to the presence of a large Bangladeshi workforce in Middle Eastern countries. The Saudi riyal was valued at Tk33, the United Arab Emirates dirham at Tk33.72, and the Qatari riyal at Tk34.02. Remittances from these countries represent a major share of Bangladesh’s foreign currency earnings.

Among Gulf currencies, the Kuwaiti dinar recorded the highest value on the day, with one dinar equivalent to Tk402.70. The Bahraini dinar stood at Tk328.65, while the Omani rial was valued at Tk320.50. These currencies have traditionally maintained high exchange values because of the strong economies and relatively stable monetary systems of the respective countries.

The exchange rate is particularly important for expatriates sending money home. A rise or fall in the value of foreign currencies against the taka can affect the amount received by families in Bangladesh. Similarly, students, patients seeking overseas medical care, and travellers may face changes in their expenses depending on currency movements.

The exchange rates published for the day reflected international market conditions, currency demand and supply, economic developments in individual countries, and domestic foreign exchange conditions. Actual transaction rates may vary slightly depending on banks, authorised money exchange institutions, and the method of transaction.

Cash foreign currency purchases, remittance transfers, and bank-based transactions may not always follow identical rates. Therefore, individuals planning large foreign currency transactions are advised to check the latest rates from authorised financial institutions before completing payments.

Currency exchange rates are not fixed and can change every day depending on global financial trends, foreign exchange reserves, import-export balances, central bank policies, inflation levels, and economic conditions in individual countries. For Bangladesh, maintaining a stable exchange rate remains a key economic priority as the country seeks to balance import requirements, support remittance flows, and strengthen its external financial position.
